First time florist coming through!!

So I was asked to do the flowers for my friend Danielle's wedding. I also did her invitations (see previous post for those). I have never in my life done flower arrangements, nor has my mom, but she agreed to help me. I learned a few things this the process. 1.) Never do flowers for a wedding that you are IN. 2.) Don't use hydrangeas in boutonniere's or corsages. 3.) Don't use hydrangeas in general. Especially in September. They die way too quick. 4.) If hydrangeas are really wanted, make sure you have spares, because they will come in handy when some die.

Over all, I actually enjoyed doing the flowers. I love working with a new material to create things. I felt really bad because I had to leave my mom to wing things so I could get dressed for pictures (refer back to #1). She did an AMAZING job improvising 2 new bouquets on the spot (see #3 & 4). I know I would do flowers again for a wedding, but whether or not mom would assist me.... well, that is another story. :)

Jessica is getting married!

I had the pleasure of designing the wedding invitations for Jessica Parks, a friend of mine since we were 5. Her and her fiance, Jeff, are getting married in October in FL, but are not having a beach themed wedding. This is what we came up with! I think it turned out amazing and look forward to doing her programs as well!

Wages/Clay Wedding

On July 17, 2010 Megan Wages and David Clay got married in Loganville, GA. Megan is the daughter of one of my dad's best friends. She has grown up to be a beautiful woman and I had the privilege of designing their wedding invitations. She had come to me with a David's Bridal design that she really liked, but was not happy that they couldn't change anything on it (font, color of text, etc.). So i duplicated it and and made it better! It turned out amazing and set the tone for their bright flowers used in the wedding. Congrats to the Clay's! Y'all looked fantastic and the wedding was amazing!

1st Jewelry Party

I hosted my first jewelry party at my mom's house on the 31st of July. I had a pretty good turn out for it being the first one. I will definitely be doing more of these. It was only a few hours long, and I totally had that feeling that no one was going to show up, but there was a steady flow of people for the whole 3 hours it was going. I am going to do another one before Christmas, probably after Thanksgiving, so keep an eye out for the announcement.
My friend Mandi and a couple of her friends are throwing a baby shower so Mandi asked me to make the invites. She sent me a picture of the fabric being used in the nursery (plaid!! Love it!) so I went along with those colors and patterns. I made a girl design too that is similar, but done in pinks!

Turtle baby shower invite

I love doing baby shower invites. The mom usually has a theme for the nursery so I play off of those colors and designs. I was told that the mom-to-be wanted to have turtles on it, so this is what I came up with.

Programs for Nicki

I met Nicki and Lisa Wilmer through my best friends mom, Susan Allen. Susan had refered Lisa to me to do her daughters wedding programs. It was so nice to work with people other than my friends and family (no offence to any of my friends or family members, I LOVE your business, but it is always great to expand). I did a few sample designs for Nicki, and it just happened that her place settings for the reception were a Damask design, so that is the one we went with. The programs turned out fantastic! There were 2 different types of ribbon used because I bought out all the ribbon in the color and style I needed from 2 Joann stores!

Dani will soon be a Hallahan.

I finished the wedding invites for Danielle Van Yush a while ago, but seeing as I forget that I now have a blog, I never posted the pictures. I promise to try and keep up with this a little bit better.

I'm a blogger??

So, this is my first blog, ever. I really have no idea what I am doing and I can honestly say that I never thought this would happen, but it is strictly for Blacky Designs. If I happen to throw in my opinion or a story time to time, then that is just a little look into the world of Kara. I figured this would be a good place to keep track of jobs I am working on as well as the final products. So hopefully I will remember to update this every once in a while.
